Hate

After last week's murder of a doctor in Kansas and yesterday's murder of a guard at the Holocaust Museum the television networks were commenting on the rising number of hate groups in our country over the last several years. One commentator opined that the internet was to blame - comparing it to the "Wild, Wild West". I don't know if that is quantifiable, but certainly the internet has shaped our lives in unimaginable ways over the past decade or so. In the conversations around this rise in hate one person remarked, "This is terrorism, right here in our own country."
As a person of faith I do believe that love is stronger than hate. However, I also believe that love does not equal passivity. We cannot stand by and allow those who would commit senseless acts of violence to continue to get the kind of media exposure that is part and parcel of these acts. While it certainly makes the news, what would it look like for us to spend less time concentrating on these acts - instead of being fascinated by them?
The killing of innocents is hardly a unique phenomenon in our day. Lord, have mercy upon us.
